Restricted Vision, Unburdened Sight
Sometimes the things you can't see help you see more clearly!
My last connection to Junebug was recently snatched from my hands…or should I say, from my purse. It had been lost and found several times over the past 47 years. This time, though, it was lost because I wasn’t diligent in my preparation. Back in 1979, my first car was a 1977 AMC Gremlin that … Continue reading The Junebug Knife — Forever Out of Sight
I sat in that 1960s aluminum kitchen dinette chair, faking bravery. My ears were about to be pierced! I was certain it was going to hurt, but I completely trusted the one holding the needle. Yes! Holding the needle! I wasn’t the first to sit in that chair. By the time it was my turn, … Continue reading Looking Back at That Kitchen Chair
I’m actually so humbled to have some of my readers checking on me because I have been silent for a little while. I’ve been under the weather for a bit and am finally starting to feel better. Thank you to everyone who checked on me. Your kindness means more than you know. I’ll be easing … Continue reading Small Update
A forbidden pleasure as a child was playing in the creek. The forbidden part—my mom was afraid for us to be around the creek because she was afraid of water. Her rule of thumb was simple: stay away from the creek—period. She knew that creeks could be soothing and calm, but they could also become … Continue reading Watch the Raging Waters
On the dark side of the kitchen, I opened an upper cabinet door. Rummaging around, I must have caused something to shift from the very top shelf. A fairly sizable container came crashing down and cracked me on the brow bone—just missing my eye! Oh, did I fail to mention that the “dark side of … Continue reading Don’t Stand in the Dark
I have been seeing friends post Easter pictures from when they were children. Easter pictures from childhood are priceless — sometimes embarrassing or hilarious — but priceless still the same. For Easter in the early sixties, the standard uniform for little girls was white frilly dresses lifted by crinolines, white gloves and pearls, with tights … Continue reading Contemplate the Priceless Gift
I recently experienced my first birthday without my mom, and in less than a week, another “first” is approaching—Easter. Nearly every Easter I can remember was spent with her. Even when I worked two states away, I made sure to be home for the holiday. Although we didn’t always spend the entire day together, or … Continue reading Look Toward the Tree
I visited my cousin’s church this past Sunday. I knew it was a satellite campus, so when it was time for the sermon, I was pleased to see the pastor walk up to the podium. I enjoyed the message and his perspective on the prodigal son from Luke 15:11–32. He shared how, when the younger … Continue reading Keep Looking for the Prodigal
Easter memories don’t have to end once you are grown. I was recently putting together an Easter basket for my niece. (“Ah, how sweet.” you may think.) I was telling my brother we needed to pick up a few more things to fill it out. He says, “You know she is twenty-eight years old.” I … Continue reading Searching for Assurance
Throughout my sixty-plus years, I have walked through many seasons of life, and God has been steady throughout all of them. How can I be certain of this? I have proof! The majority of my writing will never be seen by anyone other than myself. I have accumulated boxes and boxes full of journals; some … Continue reading Visible Patterns and Textures
