Recognize the Wonders of God

Sometimes you pray and you pray…and you pray for a circumstance to turn out the way you want it to. You want that great job. You want that great relationship and then marriage. You want your children to be strong and healthy. You want your life to be good. Those are not evil things to want or to pray for.

What about those more serious prayers?  Please don’t let this job fall through.  Please don’t let them leave me.  Please don’t let me be lonely or afraid. Please don’t let my loved one die.  Those are not evil things to want or to pray for either.

Life can be good, so good; but then it can also turn and be bad, heartrendingly bad.  Where do we stand between those platforms when our worlds are caught between the two?

I think I must like studying the Psalms of King David. I didn’t really plan it that way. This was just the scripture I was studying today. Although, yes, I do like studying passages that give a deeper look into his life. He had so many ups and downs and his story is not a “fairy tale.” He had glory, yes, but he had many losses too. He stood between those good and bad platforms many times. But through the best of the best and the worst of the worst, his heart always came back to the God he served.

We see in the first few verses of Psalm 86 that David is crying out for to God for forgiveness and mercy. His soul is in anguish.  Then around the middle of the passage we see him beginning to praise.

He praises the great God for the wondrous things He has done, and David has seen some wondrous things. He acknowledges that God is God alone, as in there are no other Gods.  His desire is for God to teach him His (God’s) ways, the way things are supposed to be done. He desires to walk in truth, the way God sees it. He asks God to give him a heart that is united in honoring and having awe in Him alone.

David’s desire for a united heart was because he wanted to serve God with his whole heart; and he wanted, through the rest of his existence, to glorify God’s name. With all his human flaws, he was still a man after God’s heart.

The challenge for us in this passage could be getting to the place where David did, past our struggles, our sorrows, our selfishness, our sins and our repentance to that raw place of need for God and desire to follow His ways one hundred percent on the path He would set for us.

How can this scripture be applied to our lives? We need to work on getting our hearts in the place where we recognize God as the One and Only God…high above all the things of this world that we put between ourselves and Him — our jobs, our relationships, our struggles, our pain and our sins,  Listen to God’s guidance on how to walk in His truth with a heart that is united in serving Him alone.

What this means to my faith is the assurance that God is the Great God and He still does wondrous things! Even through my failures,  heartaches and sins, I can count on His forgiveness and blessings to follow me into eternity and allow me to glorify and honor Him through both good and bad.

Lord, I praise You and I lift Your Name up for all to see. Help me come close enough to You that I can listen, learn and continually praise and honor You. I desire to live a life that will allow me to see the wonders of You!

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable. 4 One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts. 5 I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works.” Psalm 145:3-5 (KJV)

Who is like unto thee, O Lord, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?” Exodus 15:11 (KJV)

Among the gods there is none like unto thee, O Lord; neither are there any works like unto thy works.” Psalm 86:8 (KJV)

I feel that since God has given me the gift of this platform, I must always tell you about Him.

What is your relationship to the all-knowing God of the universe?  Do you know Jesus? Do you know the peace that can come only from an intimate relationship with Him?  You can know Him.  Jesus Christ, God’s Son, born into human flesh, sinless, crucified and giving His life freely, buried, arisen on the third day, will come into your life and change the outcome of your eternity.  You just have to be willing to believe and accept His truth.

Here is an excellent website that can give you additional information about making your decision for Jesus Christ!  PeaceWithGod.net
