Are You Following The Light?

I think we are back to following again today.  It amazes me how “sheep-like” people really are and how quickly they can be turned aside from doing the right thing. No big story here,  I’ve just thinking about some folks that seem to be on the “follow for the wrong reasons” train and I am puzzled by how this happens.  How can you go from following the Light to being headed toward the dark?

As Christ followers we are supposed to follow the light of Christ. We even have the roadmap to help us on our journey—the Bible.  Then, in addition, we have a perfect role model to emulate—Jesus!

In John 8:11-13 Jesus tells us exactly Who to follow. Right before this particulate passage,  Jesus had been speaking to the religious leaders and then had spoken forgiveness to the woman caught in adultery. So in this passage  He spoke to them again. He told them, clearly, that  He is the Light of the World.

He was teaching, instructing and telling them that whoever follows Him will no longer walk in darkness. He told them what would happen when they followed Him—instead of darkness, they would be walking surrounded by the ultimate Light. Sadly, the religious leaders would have none of this. They were basically calling Him a liar. They had no desire to follow the Light.

Jesus tells us and shows us—we do not have to guess—that He is the Light that destroys darkness. No matter what our circumstances, if we choose to walk with Him, we never have to fear the darkness again.

The challenge for many people is to remain in the Light. With our mortal bodies we live in the world, and the world is darkness. We must deliberately choose to step outside that darkness and walk in the Light. Even though the Light is always there and eternally surrounds us, we sometimes have to choose to remain there.

Applying this to our lives means that daily, moment by moment, hour by hour, we must thoughtfully,  intentionally choose Light over darkness and allow God to order our steps.

For me, personally/physically, even though much of my vision is cloaked in darkness, the window of vision I do have allows me to follow the Light and allows me to move forward in life. This dimmed vision is temporary. Knowing that Jesus has eternal light, the Light that leads to life, makes following that Light even more desirable.

Lord, I do thank You that You have provided Light to us in this dark world. The world tries so hard to block out the Light. Help me to continually be the “moon” that reflects the Light of the“Son” so that this path can be seen by others and make their journey easier.

11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. 12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. 13 The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.” John 8:11-13 (KJV)

I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.” – John 12:46 (KJV)

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” 2 Corinthians 4:6 (KJV)

I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;” Isaiah 42:6 (KJV)

The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.” Isaiah 60:19 (KJV)

I feel that since God has given me the gift of this platform, I must always tell you about Him.

What is your relationship to the all-knowing God of the universe?  Do you know Jesus? Do you know the peace that can come only from an intimate relationship with Him?  You can know Him.  Jesus Christ, God’s Son, born into human flesh, sinless, crucified and giving His life freely, buried, arisen on the third day, will come into your life and change the outcome of your eternity.  You just have to be willing to believe and accept His truth.

Here is an excellent website that can give you additional information about making your decision for Jesus Christ!  PeaceWithGod.net
