Do you have days when you are tempted to just hide away from the world? Me, guilty. I confess that I tend to be a hermit. I like being home. I like the sense of security I get from being home. Plus, the craziness of the past few weeks definitely makes me want to burrow in and stay away from the outside world. It can be fearful out there. But then sometimes it can be fearful in here, my cozy safe place.
God does not want us to feel this way. We are told to not be afraid, or not fear over three hundred times in God’s Word.
My fears of late, even with everything going on in the outside world, have been more inward. I have never dealt well with change. Big changes, they really get me. Big changes are coming for this cozy, safe home. Physical signs show that my momma is not far away from crossing that river to be in the presence with our Lord. She has always been my best friend and biggest supporter. My biggest current fear is losing the special closeness that I have never had with another person. You will have many relationships in your life, but never like the relationship you have with your mother.
When I was in elementary school there was this family that would come and visit my great grandparents. They had a daughter that was about seven years older than me. She was stunningly beautiful, with a personality to match. The relationship I have with my momma is based on the relationship she and her mom shared. There was something special about their relationship. They did everything together. They were so close. I wanted that same relationship with my momma.
I have been blessed enough to have that relationship. I am just not sure how my life is going to look without it. There is a little fear creeping in on how different things are going to be.
God does not want us to be fearful. He does not want me to be fearful. He wants us living our lives big for Him and showing others the light of Christ. Isaiah 41:10 tells us to not be afraid or discouraged because He is our God and He is with us. As His presence is always there, He will strengthen us and help us; His hand is always there, grasped onto to us to hold us up. I am counting on this truth as I move through the next few weeks.
Although fear is sometimes difficult to avoid. Our challenge, as Christ followers, is to trust God completely. When fear comes knocking at our door, the key is to let Jesus answer and handle everything. Trust God first. Attempt to deliberately make God a part in every area of our lives. Allow Him to strengthen us and help us through every aspect of every day.
I believe that knowing God is always there strengthens the foundation of my faith. It is easier to have faith and trust God when I have the assurance that He will always have my back and that I can trust him with my greatest earthly treasure. He will diminish any fear that comes my way.
Lord, help me trust You and help me allow You to work in and around my life when it is Your plan. Please strengthen me and continue to hold me up with Your righteous right hand! Help my light stay strong for You.
