A Brief Look At Dependence On God

I rely on God and I depend on God. I cannot fathom how anyone could live without the Hope that God gives. If you have surrendered yourself to God, your hope is not the same as earthly hope . It is a supernatural hope that resides within you even through the most difficult times.

God has given us a book that is especially valuable when you need encouragement. Even if you know nothing about the Bible, or are new to the Bible, it is very easy to locate. Just open your Bible right in the middle and there it is—the Psalms.

I did a word study on a couple of passages in Psalms a few years ago. The theme I got out of out was “dependence on God.” The passages were Psalm 118:7-8 and Psalm 23:1-3.

Psalm 118:7-8 tells us that the Lord is surrounding us, every moment, working for us, upholding those that are on our side. It assures us of victory from our battles with those that are against is. Of course we know it is referring to spiritual battles. It is so much better to put ourselves in God’s hands when we are engaged in those battles. We cannot always count on help from those around us, but we can always count on God.

Psalm 23:1-3 assures us that it is the Lord who watches over us. We will not be in need for the things we need to fight those spiritual battles. God helps us find safe, secure places where our souls can rest and find peace. He refreshes us and shows us which way to go. God makes us strong so that His name will remain strong.

My faith is strengthened and undergird by the knowledge that the Lord is surrounding me with every breath I breathe. He is my Shepherd, my Caregiver, and He wants me to be successful and strengthened by the battles I face.  It helps to know, from experience, that counting on God is much more beneficial than counting on man.  He will allow me to battle, but He is always a breath away from stepping in and finishing up what I cannot finish.   My faith is strengthened more each time I see my God come through for me — when He gives me provision, victory, rest and replenishment! The more He is there for me, the more I have confidence that He will forever be!!!

I should use this knowledge to be strengthen in His promises to me. I should lean into Him when I feel like life is becoming too much.  I should face my battles with Him as my shield bearer, knowing He is out in front of me.  (What better shield bearer could we have!?!)  I should face each day with confidence in His provision and sink into His arms for rest and refreshment.

Lord, help me see the places in my life where I depend on myself or others that I should be depending on You. Help me to daily realize that I need to lean hard on You to see me through life’s daily battles (even if it is just a cup of coffee splattered all over the TV room!) I thank You and praise You for every situation where You have brought me through — either by the knowledge gained  through victory or the lessons learned from defeat. You are my God, You are continually there.  I acknowledge and find joy in this fact! You ARE my forever! In the name of Jesus!

I think I must have written this one for myself! My dependence on God right now is pretty big.  My dependence on Him in the coming days will be even bigger. The hope, supernatural hope, I have is that, without a doubt, I can depend on Him.

“Lord taketh my part with them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.” (Psalm 118:7-8)

The Lord is my shepherd; I have what I need. He lets me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside quiet waters. He renews my life; he leads me along the right paths for his name’s sake.” (Psalm 23:1-3)

What is your relationship to the all-knowing God of the universe, the One that you can completely depend on?  Do you know Jesus? Do you know the peace that can come only from an intimate relationship with Him?  You can know Him.  Jesus Christ, God’s Son, born into human flesh, sinless, crucified and giving His life freely, buried, arisen on the third day, will come into your life and change the outcome of your eternity.  You just have to be willing to believe and accept His truth.
