Here we are, yet another blog with spiders in the midst. Yes, I know, the last one was about spiders. I also know that I fixate way too much on spiders. This blog was supposed to be about an old swimming pool in the town where I grew up. No spiders. Nothing scary. I just ran into some technical difficulties in the writing process of that one and I had to step away. I had the idea down; I had the main part of the blog written. I finally had a picture of the pool when it was open and thriving. Then… technical issues. So now we have spiders. Actually, the spiders are everywhere right now. They are coming at me from every angle. They mock me and jump at me, and I secretly think they are laughing at me. They scurry around and hide in the most unlikely places. Although, the thing could be that they are actually desperate; desperate because they realize that the gig is up. The bug guy came today to check us out. They saw his van. Yes. Spiders. The gig is up!
I’m sitting here looking out the window at the front porch. There are no dancing, laughing, mocking spiders this evening. The front porch spiders definitely saw the bug guy in his big, bright yellow van. They probably called a meeting. They may think they have some sort of control at the moment. But… the truth is, they are afraid. Their plans are not looking so secure. Their way of life is being threatened. They are planning. They are plotting. I am sure, before it is all over, by hook or by crook, they will make some desperate attempt to win this battle. They will lose. Essentially, with the bug guy on my side. They do not have a chance.
Although I have been down a few weeks with a torn meniscus, I have sprayed and scattered peppermint to my best ability, hoping it would put a dent in them. It may have slowed the spiders down a bit, but they are still aggressively making themselves known. This is the most noticeable they have been in a long time. I think, possibly, it could be because I have become somewhat passive about my attempts to actually control them, or, unfortunately, be controlled by them.
As I have mentioned in a previous blog, I don’t see spiders like I used to. The majority of damage is my field vision within both eyes. This affects my side and primarily my lower vision, with almost all of the left eye affected, along with the field vision. The somewhat good vision that I have remaining is in the top of my right eye. I can see. through a blurry lens, out and over at what is in a direct line out in front of me. I thought for a while that we just did not have spiders like we used to. Then realization dawned that they are still there, they are just hovering in the gray area around me that I no longer see.
I believe my battle with spiders mirrors the general battle between good and evil that is going on all around us at this particular time. Although, most of the battle is carried on in the gray areas around us, if you look around at the world, it seems that evil is winning. They have become bolder about coming out to be seen. Evil seems to be in charge and is dancing, laughing, and mocking at those that are trying to keep it together for the good. It can sometimes be hard to keep the faith when it seems like evil has the upper hand.
The spiders of this world—evil—with its seemingly upper hand, have cleverly veiled themselves to resemble good. It is sometimes hard for people to tell the difference. Of course, that could have something to do with the human disposition for closing our eyes to what we do not want to see. We are a selfish, entitled bunch that has created gods that look good and not evil. Without deliberately intending to do so, we have made gods out of our “stuff.” And our stuff, being anything from money, position, power, relationships, children, possessions, etc., is crawling with the spiders of evil just out of sight.
Our stuff holds a lot of power over our lives in this world where we reside; so much so that this world now controls a large majority of us. And the world, it is a tough place. The “world’s” spiders are everywhere. They have their territory covered well. They weave their webs in a heartbeat. They come at us from every angle, especially now as the battle is heating up. Psalms 36:1-4 tells us that this will happen.
“I have a message from God in my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: There is no fear of God before their eyes. In their own eyes they flatter themselves too much to detect or hate their sin. The words of their mouths are wicked and deceitful; they fail to act wisely or do good. Even on their beds they plot evil; they commit themselves to a sinful course and do not reject what is wrong.”
Although, the thing could be that they are desperately spinning their webs, entangling and trapping all they can because they realize that the gig is up. The “Bug Guy” came two thousand years ago. Oh, and they saw Him. They saw Him! He may not have been in a bright, yellow van, but they knew who He was. Yes, spiders of this world, the gig is up! Isaiah 5:20 tells us that there will be a bitter end to those that call evil good.
“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.” Isaiah 5:20
Know this, for all the spiders out there: even when they are making their desperate attempt to win this battle, they will lose. As a matter of fact, they have already lost. Evil has lost. Jesus Christ has won the war. He chooses to allow the evil one a bit of time. But his time is drawing near. Essentially, as we put our trust in Christ, we have also won. There will be battles lost and sorrow felt, but as we keep an eye on the spiders and their efforts, in the end, they do not have a chance.

“”Why do you boast of evil, you mighty hero? Why do you boast all day long, you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God? You who practice deceit, your tongue plots destruction; it is like a sharpened razor. You love evil rather than good, falsehood rather than speaking the truth. You love every harmful word, you deceitful tongue! Surely God will bring you down to everlasting ruin: He will snatch you up and pluck you from your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living.” (Psalms 52:1-5 KJV)

What is your relationship to the all-knowing God of the universe, to the One that will take the final battle? Do you know Jesus? Do you know the peace that can come only from an intimate relationship with Him through all of life’s battles? He loves you and you can know Him. Jesus Christ, God’s Son, born into human flesh, sinless, crucified and giving His life freely, buried, arisen on the third day, will come into your life and change the outcome of your eternity. You just have to be willing to believe and accept His truth.
Here is an excellent website that can give you additional information about making your decision for Jesus Christ! PeaceWithGod.net
Very interesting perspective, and the encouragement is much needed. I have had a spider just like the one in the picture living on my porch. Maybe I’ll just continue to leave him alone (as long as he leaves me alone 😉) to remind me of the coming victory.

I didn’t know spiders don’t like peppermint. Where did you put it around the foundation?

Oh my goodness! I peppermint everywhere. Mostly put it around doorways windows anywhere that spiders might come in. I put it on cotton balls and put the cotton balls down in my shoes that I’m not gonna be wearing for a while. I spray under my bed, around my bed, on the wall behind my bed. You get the idea… Lol. I really really do not like spiders. As long as I keep everything pepperminted pretty well, I don’t see a whole lot of spiders. Of course I don’t really see them if they’re fast anyhow. Funny thing, though, my brother just informed me that the spiders that are really fast are not the ones that I need to worry about anyhow. It’s the slow moving spiders that you need to worry about.
Also, outside the house around our front porch, I have started growing primarily marigolds. Number one they’re easy to grow. Number two they say the spiders don’t like them. Oh yeah, I also peppermint the porches like crazy also.
