Visible Patterns and Textures

Throughout my sixty-plus years, I have walked through many seasons of life, and God has been steady throughout all of them. How can I be certain of this? I have proof!

The majority of my writing will never be seen by anyone other than myself. I have accumulated boxes and boxes full of journals; some of them dating back to the late nineteen seventies. Through these journals, I can clearly see God’s faithfulness across multiple decades of my life.

This collection of journals is a mix of hard-back journals, three ring binders, spiral notebooks, composition notebooks, travel journals, legal pads, pocket notebooks, day timers, pocket organizers, calendars of varying types and just some good ole fashioned diaries! (Let’s just say most anything I could write on.)

I pulled my journals out a few years ago to read through them. Out of their boxes, stacked on my desk, on the bed and in the floor, they were a rag-tag chunk of life experiences and adventures; and they looked pretty worn and shabby.

I decided to create book covers for all of them. I chose a collection of vibrant, beautiful fabrics. They were already different sizes and shapes.  After they were covered, they also included different colors, patterns and textures. Instead of being shabby and mismatched, they became beautiful in my eyes.

My collection of journals are also a mix of the many colors, patterns and textures of my Christian walk. I have been a follower of Jesus Christ from a young age. Most of that walk has been spent seeking and leaning in toward Him. I didn’t always follow toward the front of the line though. There were seasons that I held on but closed my eyes so I wouldn’t see the hurt I caused Him through disobedience. Then there were times that He had to drag me along or just pick me up like a willful child and carry me.

The thing is, no matter my attitude or my situation, His Spirit always found me where I was. There was no hiding, ever.

I have come to the loving conclusion that whenever you are God’s person, there is no hiding from Him — no matter how hard you try. Through the different chapters of your life, His Spirit will continually find you.

“7 Where could I go from your Spirit? Or where could I flee from your presence? 8 If I ascend up into heaven, you are there. If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, you are there! 9 If I take the wings of the dawn, and settle in the uttermost parts of the sea, 10 even there your hand will lead me, and your right hand will hold me.” Psalm 139:7-10 (World English Bible)

Varying colors, patterns and textures now cover my worn, shabby journals. So too, the shed blood of Jesus now covers my sin and makes me beautiful in God’s eyes.

Throughout the next few weeks, coming up to Easter, truly consider the sacrifice of Christ and how it can change your life and cover the bumps and bruises of your sin.

You too can be beautiful in God’s eyes!

What is your relationship to the all-knowing God of the universe? Do you know the peace that can come only from an intimate relationship with Jesus? You can know Him.  Jesus Christ—God’s Son, born into human flesh, sinless, crucified and giving His life freely, buried, arisen on the third day—will come into your life and change the outcome of your eternity. You just have to be willing to believe and accept His truth. In addition, here is an excellent page that can give you additional information on peace with God: PeaceWithGod.net.
