My return trip from visiting my niece ended up being a longer day than I thought it would. The plan was to get through the flight, grab lunch, go home, get the travel crud washed off in the shower, and relax the rest of the day. As it ended up, I hit two airports, one air plane, a restaurant — and the emergency room, (which was not in the plan. Nothing serious, just need to take it easy for a bit.)
That was a long day. It started early and ended late! I really did feel like I was wearing the dirt of everywhere between Florida and Tennessee. It kind of amazes me how you can feel so grimy when you really have done nothing other than sit and walk around. There was no running, no strenuous exertion, no sweating. But the grime seemed to layer on.
Our spirits can be layered over with the grime of the world also. We sometimes let our idols start slipping in around the edges. (Yes, there are still idols today…money, status, objects and the like.) We get so weighed down by burdens that our hearts become like stone. We get so covered up in busyness that our spirits are hard pressed to listen for God to help us walk in His ways.
Sometimes, during those times when we are plastered over, layer by layer, with the things of the world, God will draw us out. He will implant within our hearts that desire to break through the crusty layers and seek Him more closely again. He will cleanse us and wash away that plaster covering so that we are clean again and get us back on the right path.
“25 And I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your uncleannesses and from all your idols will I cleanse you. 26 And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and keep mine ordinances, and ye shall do them.” Ezekiel 36:25-27 (Darby Translation)
Whatever state we are in, we can seek the cleansing power of God.

You can know Him.
