What is the Vision of Your Heart?

I have been looking at some old photo albums the past few days. I was looking for some pictures of the house I grew up in for a future post. Old pictures make me smile. They also bring up old memories and places that make you think about the paths you have taken in life and about how different your priorities are from a twenty year old to sixty-plus.

As a twenty year old my priorities were more about new experiences and finding my way.   In my thirties, climbing the corporate ladder was priority. The forties brought maturity that led me to follow my heart in my occupation. In my fifties my priorities changed greatly with my vision loss and learning to navigate a whole new world. My sixties, so far have been…challenging.

I became a follower of Jesus Christ when I was eleven. Each of those succeeding decades also brought different levels of spiritual growth. I can look back at my spiritual markers and see significant decisions that I made at pivotal points in my life to move me closer to Christ and move my heart’s desires closer to the desires of my Lord.

Psalm 37 is a Psalm of David where he talks about how the desires of our heart can be fulfilled. In verse three, he writes to those belonging to God that to trust in the Lord and to do good will allow them to be able to continue to dwell in their land and be fed.

He continues telling them that to be happy and find joy in their relationship with the Lord will allow them to attain the things that their hearts desire. And if they will commit themselves to the Lord and fully trust in Him and align their lives to His will, then He will fulfill their desires.

Finally he told them that the Lord would make their righteousness clear to everyone.  It would show as light all around them and they will be shown as good people.

Living in this world, our desires seem to become aligned with worldly wants and needs.  The challenge from this passage could be in committing ourselves completely to the Lord so that His desires become our heart’s desires.

How can we apply this to our lives? Developing a closer, intimate, joyful relationship with the Lord is key. To do this, we must dedicate our time and effort to His Word and spending time in His presence.

My faith is strengthened as I read that as God’s chosen ones come close to Him and sincerely seek an intimate relationship with Him, He will honor them with the desires that will build His kingdom and give joy to the believer.

Lord, I have seen in my own relationship with You that as I come closer to You, the desires of my heart align more closely with Your Plan. Help me to always seek for Your desires to become My desires and the vision of my heart to lead me closer to You.

“3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. 4 Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. 5 Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. 6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.”  Psalm 37:3-6 (KJV)

I feel that since God has given me the gift of this platform, I must always tell you about my Jesus.

What is your relationship to the all-knowing God of the universe?  Do you know Jesus? Do you know the peace that can come only from an intimate relationship with Him?  You can know Him.  Jesus Christ, God’s Son, born into human flesh, sinless, crucified and giving His life freely, buried, arisen on the third day, will come into your life and change the outcome of your eternity.  You just have to be willing to believe and accept His truth.
