Looking Toward Eternity With Increased Longing

It has been a hard day in our cozy little house.  My precious momma passed peacefully into her eternal home this morning.  We were waiting and watching and loving on her as we could. Now she has found the ultimate peace and rest.

As I was watching her get weaker these past couple of weeks and looking to when her time here on this earth would be through, I have had this scripture on my heart:

Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.”  Psalm 73:24

Actually, that whole passage of Psalm 73:24-26 gives me hope and encouragement.  It tells us that God will guide all our steps with His eternal wisdom and when we are finished with our walk on this earth, God will meet us in glory.

The Psalmist then shares that their biggest desire when they make it to heaven is God! That is my biggest desire. Then the Psalmist goes on to share that his deepest longing here was to serve God as long as he remained on this earth! I have felt such a renewal to want my service to my Lord to be stronger and bolder.

In verse 26 the Psalmist goes on to share how he knows our bodies are frail and our flesh will give out.  But then, God….  The source of my hope for my momma is how she has now been given the strength of God through all eternity.

The challenge for us is to listen to the wisdom from God by staying in His Word and allowing Him to guard our steps. We need to deliberately work to stay on the path He has laid out for us.

What does this mean to my faith?  I have confidence that God is with me every step that I take. If I will only listen to Him, He will guide those steps. If I will seek His wisdom, He willingly gives it. The greatest hope that this gives my faith is that when my life on this earth is finished, my eternal life will begin in the presence of God….. and those that I love that have gone on before me.

My Lord and my God, I thank You for so gently bringing my momma to You. Please take good care of her. She is a good one and I am looking forward to seeing her all whole and healthy when I cross over. Help me to be more diligent to share Your story and try to point others to You.

24 Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. 25 Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. 26 My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.”  Psalm 73:24-26  (KJV)

But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.”  Psalm 49:15 (KJV)

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”  John 14:3 (KJV)

For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.”  Psalm 48:14 (KJV)

For we know that if our earthly house of [this] tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.”  2 Corinthians 5:1 (KJV)

What is your relationship to the all-knowing God of the universe, the One that is able to give you perfect peace and rest?  Do you know Jesus? Do you know the peace that can come only from an intimate relationship with Him?  You can know Him.  Jesus Christ, God’s Son, born into human flesh, sinless, crucified and giving His life freely, buried, arisen on the third day, will come into your life and change the outcome of your eternity.  You just have to be willing to believe and accept His truth.

Here is an excellent website that can give you additional information about making your decision for Jesus Christ! PeaceWithGod.net
