I See a Prayer for Me in There…

A friend and I started a virtual Bible study the first of January. She desires to go verse by verse through Paul’s prison epistles. I love going verse by verse when I study also. She had a reading plan for Colossians for the month of January. We started there. I have enjoyed it so much. I wanted to share my thoughts on today’s passage.

She and I both have a pretty standard way that we approach our study. She uses the SOAP method (scripture, observation, application, prayer). Most of the time I use the ABC method (A: give your session a relevant title; B: select a verse(s) within your scripture passage; and C: challenge, application and prayer). Although, we will change it up when we find a passage that needs more. We share our study each day with one another.

Today we were in Colossians 4:1-4. Reading through the passage, I felt so connected to the instructions and requests that Paul was making. I will usually pick one verse to concentrate on, but today verses two through four all wanted to be highlighted. Before I could even start writing them in my journal. I knew that they would need more than the regular journal entry. I grabbed a clean sheet of paper, and this is what I came up with….

I was not sure what I would end up doing, so I wrote with space between the lines. As I was writing, I discovered that Paul’s instructions and requests could be made into a prayer for me to pray. So I went back with different color markers and wrote my prayer within Paul’s words. I am absolutely not an artist, but just wanted to capture this in a different way.

My Prayer

“Masters, give your bondservants what is just and fair, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven. Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving; meanwhile praying also for us, that God would open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains, that I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.” (Colossians 4:1-4 NKJV)

I just wanted to share! We are headed into Philippians for the month of February if you want to read along with us! Here is the plan:

A daily reading plan for the book of Philippians for February.

_______________________________________

Do you know my God? He is amazing! He created a perfect world. He loved His creation. Then, through the disobedience of man, God’s created beings, sin came into that perfect world. God, as the Creator, was the only One that could redeem His creation. Over two thousand years ago, a season in time came to be when Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, God in the flesh, was born as a tiny babe. (Christianity.com has a very good article about how Jesus fulfilled over 300 prophecies of the much looked for Messiah. Of course the better place to read this is in the Bible itself.) He lived a sinless life. At the age of about thirty, He began His earthly ministry. Jesus was abandoned by His followers, tortured and crucified to death. This He did deliberately, giving up His life freely. He was buried in a borrowed tomb that was heavily guarded by Roman soldiers. Then, as He had promised His followers, He arose from that grave on the third day. “Why,” you ask, “would He do this, go through this?” Ah, the reason… Love. He did it for you, His beloved creation! He did it for me also, of which I am eternally thankful. The thing is, He gave His life as redemption for the sin of the whole world. This same Jesus will come into your life. God is Spirit. You come to Him in spirit. Confess to Him that you realize you are a sinner. Tell Him that you believe that Jesus is His Son, that He came to this earth to redeem you. Tell Him that you will turn away from a sinful life and follow the teachings of Jesus. Then find a local, Bible-believing church and become involved with the fellowship of the Church.
